New Teacher Tips

Tips for New Teachers

As a new teacher, you are going to make mistakes, be stretched beyond your comfort zone, work longer hours than you ever thought possible and probably question why you became a teacher in the first place.  Take heart!  You are not alone.  It is critical for new teachers to take the time to reflect, refresh and renew the passion that inspired each of us to positively impact the life of a child.  Here are some tips that a veteran teacher shared with me and I want to pass them along to you:
 1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.
 2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
 3. Commit to get more sleep.
 4. Be a life long learner and read more books than you did last year
 5. Make time to pray and understand who is in control.
 6. Spend time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.
 7. Dream more while you are awake.
 8. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.
 9. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
10. Clear clutter from your house, your car, your desk and your life.
11. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, negative thoughts or things you cannot control.

12. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.
13. Laugh more.
14. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
15. Don't take yourself so seriously; no one else does.
16. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
17. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
18. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
19. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: ''In five years, will this matter?”
20. Forgive everyone for everything.
21. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
22. Do the right thing!
23. Learn from your mistakes.
24. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.
25
. Enjoy the ride.
